
State of City of Central Tuesday at ChamberEBR
STATE OF CITY OF CENTRAL. Central Mayor Jr. Shelton will present the State of the City of Central this Tuesday at Cafe Americain, 7521 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of East Baton Rouge. Shelton, who just completed his first six months as Mayor, will describe his activities, and discuss the growth and economic boom going on in Central as well as his plans for improvements to roads, drainage, and sewer. He will also discuss the 10th anniversary of the founding of the City of Central this year.
The City of Central has the No. 3 ranked school system in the state and a low crime rate.
Central is the only privatized municipality in Louisiana and one of the few in the nation. With a population of 28,000, Central is larger than Hammond, Slidell, Denham Springs, or Zachary. The city is running an annual surplus and has nearly $20 million in the bank.
The event will begin with a reception at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will begin at 12 noon. It is open to business owners, guests, and members of the media. Reservations are not necessary.
